Guardians of Our Troubled Waters

The River Heroes of the South

Sunday, June 23, 7:30 PM- WHITE HORSE BLACK MOUNTAIN, Black Mountain

The Center’s newest documentary film focuses on three communities- Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and South Florida and their historical connection to their rivers and streams, how that changed during the industrial age and the early heroes who rose to unite the community to stand up for their waterways. Featured heroes include Wilma Dykeman, the savior of the French Broad River, the Dead Pigeon River Council who fought against Champion Paper’s destruction of the Pigeon River and Marjory Stoneman Douglas who led the fight to reclaim the Everglades against efforts to drain and pollute it. This is a general admission event. All tickets are $15. This is a ticket-less event. Your name will be at the reservations table at the door at the time of the event. (Please note that tickets to this event allow free entrance to the Arboretum for the purpose of attending the Arboretum version of the event.)

(Also playing on June 20 at Blue Ridge Community College and June 22 at NC Arboretum.)
