The Center for Cultural Preservation Presents
The 2017
Student Oral History FILM Contest
CONNECTING STUDENTS WITH ELDERS
The Center works to preserve the cultural legacy of our mountain elders while reforging the link between our elders and our young people. Our new Student Oral History Film Contest was developed to accomplish both things: reconnect our young with elders with valuable life and historic lessons while preserving our elder's stories.
HOW TO APPLY
If you are currently a student in middle school or high school in Henderson County, NC (including home school) then you are eligible to enter. Note: Students in other counties in WNC may also apply with advance permission. Contact us
First
Find an elder in your family or community who is willing to be interviewed using a video camera, smart phone, or any other creative way you like. (If you can't find an elder, contact us and we'll help you find someone willing to be interviewed.)
Second
Follow the simple guidelines in our contest rules. Then use your creativity to create an interesting 15 minute film. You must get permission from the elder to use the interview for this purpose. (Use our permission agreement linked below.) You are welcome to include more than one elder if you like.
Third
Once you've completed your film, upload the film and the entire oral history using our handy upload button below or mail us a flash drive, DVD, or CD to our address.
