Partial Transcript: Sylvia talks about the couple’s move to S Florida, Delray Beach. She found Delray Beach and the whole of Florida to be a Jewish wasteland until they joined the Workmen’s Circle. For the people who had a yearning for the Yiddish language, the music, and the literature the Cultural Foundation was formed in 1980 by Irving (?) and later taken over by Charlie Infeld.

Partial Transcript: Sylvia discusses the Yiddish entertainment that was brought into South Florida by the Cultural Foundation. There was theater from New York, Canada, and Long Island. They brought in Cantors who sang Yiddish music. They had male and female singers and Klezmer bands. Lecturers came to speak on all aspics of Yiddish life.

Partial Transcript: Sylvia talks about after the Foundation folded and what is being done to carry on Yiddish Culture. Temples in the area have taken up what was started. The Klezmer bands are still coming in; there are Yiddish entertainers and Yiddish lecturers. In condominiums all over South Florida, there is still Yiddish entertainment. In Sylvia’s Condo, they had Bruce Adler perform. She mentions Avi Hoffman appearing at some of the condos along with Freddie Roman and Dudu Fisher.

The Workmen’s Circle also makes sure people have a burial place that is affordable and works to make sure people have insurance they can afford.

She has read Sholem Aleichem’s stories in English but when someone read them to her in Yiddish she noticed there was a world of difference.

There are the social and fraternal benefits of the organization. Sylvia sees how at the Workmen Circle meetings the members care for each other, they are concerned about one another. There are many organizations that the Workmen’s Circle supports. The Workmen’s Circle is a very caring organization and a very caring religion. Sylvia is very proud to be part of it.
