Partial Transcript: June Rogers has lived at Carolina Village for 13 years and been involved with the Village Treasure Sale Shop. The shop accepts donations and articles that have been left by residents and sells them to other residents and staff at low price. Getting articles ready to sale takes a lot of work but we have a good time and residents enjoy coming and buying little things they need.

Partial Transcript: The money we make is used to buy extra things we need. Last year we got between 20 and 25 thousand dollars. Village Treasures started in an old motel but kept getting bigger. When we have a half-price sale, people are excited or when we put things on a free table. People like to come and shop because they can’t go out to stores. They can buy so many things here.

Partial Transcript: If some things don’t sell, we donate them to other charity shops so nothing gets wasted. I keep a record of what we send off and it is a community service as well. When we moved in here, I donated some pieces and the store manager asked me to help out. Now I am in charge and work hard when I have to clear the contents of an entire apartment. It is hard but a lot of fun and rewarding.

Partial Transcript: We were living on the property where Lake Pointe Landing is located when my brother-in-law asked me to fill in at the reception desk at Carolina Village. I wound up staying on for a long time. My husband would come over and one day he insisted that we needed to move over to the Village. He thought it was a smart move and it was. He got great care when he had to go to the Medical Unit and died there. They were great for him.

Partial Transcript: I take people on tours of the facilities and a lot of them recognize me when they move in. This is a wonderful community of kindness. A big family. When my husband died, I had all these people to talk to and not be lonely. I look forward to going to assisted living, but I am too busy to go.

Partial Transcript: Many stories that we tell. If we get something in the store that we do not recognize, everybody stands around and guesses what it could be. We just have a lot of fun. Everything about this place makes it special, especially friends who are like family. We can just talk to everybody. It is home. People are just so appreciative of what we are doing.
